Culture

Father, help me to see the culture you have placed me in as a divine calling and not as something I have to remove myself from. Help me to remember that you call me to be light in the darkness and that is where light shines the brightest.

Open my eyes to why you have placed me in this culture so that I can understand how to live the gospel out.

Thank you for Paul's example of living as light in a dark culture, where he spoke truth and love to the believers there to encourage them to do the same. He didn't tell them to shy away, but to confront with gospel in hopes of gospel transformation, because of your great love.

Oh, what grace I don't deserve, you pour out for all people. You call no one too far gone to be transformed by your Spirit.

Your eyes

Father, you have captivated my heart with one look of your eyes. How beautiful is your love.

Draw me into you. To abide, dwell, rest in you and in your great love. Help me to abide in your glorious grace. I would never have loved you, had you not drawn me to yourself.

Make my time with you be a delight, write your word on my heart.  Make your words my delight. Your love is better than life.

Guilt

Father, this week as I have been writing the words of Leviticus line by line my heart has been heavy. How can a person follow all your commands or keep all your laws and statutes?  How can all the proper sacrifices be made?

Over and over I think "only through Jesus."

Guilt is upon every person. It can't be avoided.

All. Have. Sinned.

"But God. Being rich in mercy, even while we were dead in our own trespasses, made us alive together with Christ." By grace have I been saved.

Thank you. Thank you for your scandalous grace and your great mercy. Thank you for making a way when it was impossible to do for myself. Thank you that in Jesus, all my guilt is washed away.

Tree

Father, write these words on my heart. You tell me that a soft answer turns away wrath and that a gentle tongue is a tree of life. And that the most difficult member of the body to control holds the power of life and death.

Father, teach me your ways and the ways of Jesus who had no response at all their accusations. Let my tongue bring truth and grace and give life to those around me, even the ones I would consider my enemy. Let my tongue be wise and not pour out folly. Help me to remember that the words that come off my tongue also reveal the depths of my heart. Father, convict me and draw me to repentance over my tongue and all that flows out of my heart.

Light

Father, thank you for your pictures throughout the Old Testament that point to Jesus. The very first command of creation of light was by the spoken word of God, which points to Jesus. The pillar of fire which led the Israelites out of bondage and the 7 branch lamp stand in the temple point to Jesus. Jesus revealed himself as the Light of the World at the Feast of Tabernacles with all the candles lit all around him. The symbolism is amazing. You are sovereign and nothing happens by accident.

Father, help me to daily walk in your light and not into darkness and to be a light in the dark places around me. Let your light shine through me.

Thank you that you have called me into your light.

Idols

Father, my idols of self constantly rise up within me. But they can't save me! Why do I keep carrying them?

Father, thank you for your grace and justice, that you have made me, you will bear me up, you will carry me and you will save me. What you have spoken is final and you will bring it to pass. What you have purposed, you will do it!

Your salvation will not delay. Help me to lay my idols down and to rest in your sovereignty.

Someone tell

Father, this week the thought comes over and over again. How can they know if no one tells them??

Break my heart with the gospel for all people! Break my heart for the hurting and lost all around me. Make me brave to share my grace story and to boast of my weakness so that you may be glorified. Put a fire in my bones to share your gospel.

Bread

Father, I love all of the pictures of bread throughout the Scriptures.

When Adam and Eve had to leave the garden and make their own bread, because they took things into their own hands. The children of Israel were given manna from heaven to teach them that their dependence was on you and there was no other way. And in the tabernacle there always had to be the bread of Presence, to signify your constant presence and you are always the one who provides my needs.

Jesus revealed himself in so many ways as the Bread of Life and how He was the only one who could truly satisfy all our needs.

Father, help me to run to you as my only satisfaction and fulfillment in this world. Help me to never see the option of going one day without feeding my soul with your whisper of truth.

You are my satisfaction. You are my daily manna. You are my bread of Presence. You are I Am.

John 6

Constant

Father, for so many things in my life there has been no other option but you. And you always come through one way or another.

In the early church it was always you and no other logical answer. The church stood in earnest, constant prayer and miracles happened all the time. It is so exciting when that happens, a terrifying excitement. A holy expectation.

You. Have. To. Come. Through.

Father, make me a woman of earnest prayer. Help me to identify the distractions that come up in my life and prayer times and help me to be determined enough to learn how to remove them and guard against them. Give me great desire for prayer. I know only your Holy Spirit can do that work. Call your church to prayer.

Acts 12
